Nodame Cantabile Anime Review
Nodame Cantabile is a beautiful romantic comedy of two fellow students who meet during their senior year at Japan’s top music University. Shiniche Chiaki is Piano major who is extremely talented and has mastered multiple instruments. Yet, we find out early on that he has lost interest in becoming a great musician. Chiaki’s mind is elsewhere, he longs to become a Conductor like his world re-nowned instructor who heavily influenced him as a child. Chiaki is known for being a perfectionist who is highly critical of others, but most of all himself. Chaiki never sugar coats his opinions and at times comes off as a stuck-up douchebag because he has surpassed his fellow peers, and they know it, One can say this is Chaiki’s biggest flaw. As a conductor one is tasked with connecting individual players from different walks of life to forming a beauiful unity of sounds, an orchestra. But how can Chiaki Accomplish this when he is inconsiderate of other’s feelings? when he himself is disconnected from his peers? Another obstacle Chaiki faces is his fear for flying. Tramatized by past events Chaiki can’t fly to Europe to study under the Elites, he is stuck in japan.
Chiaki meets Nodame Megumi in his 4th year at the university. Nodame is a total opposite of Chiaki, She is odd, fun, lovable, and somewhat considerate of others. She is a clumsy slob who seems to just be going with the flow, with no sense or real direction in life. Nodame quickly falls in love with Chiaki and since their apartments are next to each other Nodame quickly makes herself at home without his permission.
Nodame Cantabile is a story about two individuals who find themselves being pulled together as they grow and take head on lifes challenges. two individuals full of youthful energy who learn and grow off each other dependenlty and independtly to conquer the musical world. Nodame Cantabile is based on the bestselling manga by Ninomiya Tomoko, and as I’ve been told This adaptation is as good as, or If i may say so, even better than, the original.
Nodame Cantabile has given me a new appreciation for classical music. I love listening Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Andres Segovia while I paint or draw but as i watched all 23 episodes of season one,I felt the urge to just listen to classical music on a daily basis with a new appreciation in listening to the composers/players emotions, notes, patterns, subtle details. It has taught me to Notice each instrument and what it brings to a piece; the sounds of individual sections such as woodwinds, strings, brass or percussion. From Mozart’s lighthearted “Pink” pieces to Bach’s harsher, faster, stronger pieces, to Beethoven’s or Rachmaninoff’s romantic pieces.
I for one Love this anime and recommend that you watch it! if you’re having a bad day just sit back and watch a few episodes you’ll see that it’ll quickly lighten up your mood. its freak-in’ awesome!
I rate this a 9 out of 10. A must watch!
